History

Aletheia Academy owned and operated by Aletheia Fellowships Inc., the Non- profit Ministry opened the child care center in the Mills River area in 2012. This location is known as our North Campus right next door to Glenn Marlow Elementary. We are trying to expand the center as savings allow.

We opened the center wanting a place where children had the most loving and safe environment to explore, learn, and play, next to our own homes. Our love for children came through years of ministering to all ages from infants to young adults. That passion continues for who we know to be our most wonderful gifts. We always seek others who possess that same dedication to create an environment that fosters; self worth, honesty, integrity, confidence, creativity, curiosity, empathy, and humility. We start them on a journey where we hope, as they grow older, they do not focus on what they can “get” from others, but what they can ”share” with others. Academics are of course important, and for children before the age of 5 these principles are learned mostly through play. We feel learning the skills to becoming a good person who can communicate with, share, play and work positively with those around them, know their self worth and that of others is what matters most in the early years. All this starts with the love, patience, kindness, and support that you and your precious one will find at Aletheia.

Aletheia North - About Us.. the Difference

We have a Loving and Caring Staff with many years of Experience, CPR/1st Aid certifications, and Loving Hearts. They Nurture and Teach children not just needed academic skills, but how to manage their feelings & emotions, and to share with and care for each other.

We teach academics using guidelines from Glenn Marlow Elementary next door to ensure children are more than prepared to enter kindergarten. Life skills like putting on shoes, a coat, sharing with others, taking turns, even simple domestic skills are taught to prepare them for life.

Learning: Teachers are free to explore (and continue with and explore) directed activities “as long as children are engaged and learning.” We explore all types of learning, constantly searching for new activities and instruments of play (in the areas of math, writing, science, art, music, cooking, gardening, life skills, and social skills) to grab their attention and curiosity to stimulate learning through independent, collaborative, and teacher directed activities. We integrate learning principles from proven Curriculums such as: Creative, Bank Street, Waldorf, Montessori. We utilize the most proven and latest research on the ways children learn and thrive best, including methods and atmosphere. For instance, we play white noise at rest time, as MRI research on the brain proves children (and adults) sleep better when their brains aren’t constantly attempting to follow a pattern as with music, or nature sounds. We are focused on the “whole child,” not just the learning aspect of childcare.

Nutrition: We provide a breakfast snack, lunch, and afternoon snack at no extra cost. Water is provided in the classrooms at all times to promote proper hydration. The Director, Kelly Hardin, holds a BS In Health and Nutrition Science, so we serve the most “Nutritional Foods the children will eat per the Childcare Nutrition Program.” If an item is not eaten after several attempts in our menu, we try something else. The most important point is that children are eating to support the nutritional needs of their bodies at this crucial stage of growth and development. We do not serve “nut products” as this is the most common “anaphylactic” allergen in young toddlers up to five. So these products are not allowed into Aletheia.

Excercise: State requirements are a minimum of 1 hour of outside time per day via their weather guidelines. When Aletheia was established, we were encouraged by our State Consultant to allow the children “lots of outdoor time.” Excercise is provided through dancing, games, yoga, etc. if its’s too cold/hot to be outside. Our playground is a “no-fall zone” area with no equipment. We have outdoor carpets, grass, and dirt areas for play. We continually change out toys and activities to keep the kids engaged and having fun!
Cost: **All ages $200 per week per spot (not based on attendance) One time Registration Fee is non-refundable and $100**

Mission

Our purpose is to provide the highest quality of care for children. Our loving atmosphere and developmental program will enhance the nurturing environment in which parents, staff and children all become partners in their education and care.

Daily activities provided for children will enrich their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. Activities to promote independence, self-reliance, problem solving and creativity will be explored individually and in groups. Opportunities to build high self-esteem and trusting relationships with teachers and peers will be provided. Children will have the opportunity to enhance cooperative play skills with a culturally diverse population.

We encourage parents to have input in our program. You may visit the Center at any time to observe, have lunch or meet with the personnel.

Importance of Social Emotional Skills

Beginning early in life, social and emotional learning (SEL) is highly important for helping preschool children to understand and manage their emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish healthy relationships, set positive goals, and make responsible decisions.

Positive outcomes for a student's future: As students graduate towards higher levels of schooling, training and employment, social and emotional skills become increasingly important. Social and emotional competencies can help students in managing stress, deciding on goals and planning for the future.

  • Positive outcomes for student achievement: According to CASEL, quality teaching of SEL promotes student satisfaction, success and academic engagement, outcomes and achievement.

  • Postive outcomes for student mental health: The Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth notes that schools who ensure that SEL is part of their teaching and learning can give students the opportunity to build the resilience to deal with change and unpredictability. This is an essential skill for positive mental health.

THE BEAUTY OF Diversity

Diversity activities teach young children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children. It also helps them realize that we’re all humans, despite differences in how we look or dress, or what we eat or celebrate.

Science and nature in Early Education

Exploring the natural world through hands-on science is an important way that children learn. Hands-on science activities encourage children to observe and manipulate items from the environment, while making predictions about what will happen and then testing those predictions. Science allows children to explore, experiment, question, discover, and understand natural and human-made objects and forces. Experiments and activities with science and nature also stimulate children’s curiosity, encourage use of all five senses, and help to build vocabulary.
